A road trip means keeping the kids entertained. Whether it's spring break, summer travel, or just a random getaway, whenever we drive we look for fun activities to do in the car that don't include screen time 😉. Of course, some screen time will keep you sane if it's a super long road trip.
But here's one activity which is like a car scavenger hunt. I found these car lists on Google but you can create your own. Here's the link if you want to print for your next road trip: Car identification list
Hand these to your kids and have them identify, circle, and tally the cars they spot, and finally name them. This is a great activity especially when there is a lot of slow-moving traffic. For older kids it's a great hidden spelling activity.
We also love listening to books. Depending on your child's age and interest level there are some great family audiobooks for road trips that will keep everyone entertained.
Guessing games are another great option. Everyone takes turns picking an animal and the rest of the family guesses the name of the animal asking yes/no questions based on the habitat, size, color, and other attributes. For example, for an octopus, the questions could be something like this: is it a land/sea animal?, can it fly/swim?, is it small/medium/big?, does it have 8 arms?
Scattergories: Naming things in different categories that begin with a specific called out or rolled out letter.
Hangman, I Spy, license plate game, alphabet game, string a story, making up stories based on key words.
I hope these activities make your trip a fun one.
